America

Almost 50 years ago, the Grammy Award-winning band was formed by Gerry Beckley, Dewey Bunnell and Dan Peek, who departed the band in 1977 and passed away in 2011, after meeting as sons of U.S. Air Force personnel stationed in London, where they began performing live.  AMERICA released their debut album on Capitol Records in 1971, which hit number one in the United States and featured the number one Billboard pop hit “Horse With No Name.”  AMERICA has influenced generations of musicians with their distinctive brand of acoustic-driven, harmony-rich rock, mixed with pop smarts, in soul-searching classic songs that reflected the times they were living in.

The band’s huge radio success throughout the ‘70s and early ‘80s at times overshadowed the lyrical depth of their songs such as the questing “Horse With No Name” (with its environmental message at the end); the frank romantic politics of “Sister Golden Hair”; the war paranoia of “Sandman” (written in part from conversations with returning airmen from Vietnam); and the cautionary life advice of “Don’t Cross The River.”

Jimmy Fastiggi

“Americana rock and roots” is the way Jimmy describes the music that he plays.
He started playing guitar at age 19 and immediately fell in love with the instrument. He began by teaching himself songs by the Beatles, Bob Dylan and acoustic music of the late 60’s and early 70’s. Over the next several years, he played in various types of bands including folk, bluegrass, country and rock and roll. As he began to listen to swing and jazz, he developed more interest in songwriting, especially the music from the American Songbook by Irving Berlin, Cole Porter and the Gershwins.

In recent years, Jimmy has fallen back in love with the blues and plays songs by many of the great blues legends such as Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters and Eric Clapton. From simple folk, to Beatles-influenced rock, delta blues, Motown-flavored R&B, country or Swing Jazz, his music reflects elements from all these styles of music. Jimmy now lives in St. Joseph Michigan where he performs at various venues throughout Southwest Michigan and the Michiana area.

For nearly 60 years, The Temptations have reigned as one of popular music’s most beloved and successful groups worldwide. Billboard named the group this past month, one of the “125 Greatest of All Time Artists,” and in 2017 lauded them as the Number One R&B/Hip Hop Artists of All Time. The Temptations rose to the top of the charts with 16 Number One R&B albums and 43 Top Ten R&B hit songs across four decades, including 14 Number One singles. Their hits “My Girl,” “Ain’t Too Proud To Beg,” and “Get Ready” are timeless, iconic classics, while the group’s later forays into funk and psychedelia, including “Cloud Nine” and “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone,” are just as influential. The group is one of Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Artists of All Time, and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989, into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1999, and into the Rhythm & Blues Music Hall of Fame in 2013.

In November, the Broadway Musical, “Ain’t Too Proud,” with the Grammy-winning Temptations’ music, was nominated for a Grammy Award in the “Best Musical Theater Album” category and the Awards category will be held in January 2020. Also, for the 2019 holiday season, Universal Music Enterprises just released in the market a first-of-its-kind, animated video featuring the Temptations’ “Silent Night,” one of the popular holiday songs of all time. The Temptations will mark their 60th Anniversary next year with an international concert tour. The Temptations are: Otis Williams, Ron Tyson, Terry Weeks, and Willie Greene.
